The month of March has two days that celebrate women everywhere. International Women’s Day on 8th March, and Mother's Day on 19th March both highlight the special role of women in our families and society.
At SkinAkin, we want to highlight the crucial role of women as Mothers and Carers, in managing our loved one's Eczema.
As parents and carers of children with eczema, we can have much more on our plates than other parents. It can be challenging, emotional, and stressful helping your child navigate this condition, as well as juggling everything else going on in our lives!
As mothers and carers, we are not only looking after our child's physical needs but also their emotional needs. We feel the pain, frustration, sadness, and anxiety along with our kids. We share their emotions, but have to stay strong, as we work to find the best ways to help our children.
As well as this, we have also become skincare experts. We remember the nights, spending countless hours researching, experimenting, and consulting with healthcare professionals to find the best treatments for our children's skin. Discovering different types of moisturizers, creams, and ointments, and how best to apply them. We even become materials experts, as we worked out the best type of clothing to help soothe our children's skin and help it heal.
We educate others about eczema to raise awareness and reduce stigma. We connect with other parents of children with eczema and help eachother, as we share the journey, experiences, and advice. Sometimes it feels like an uphill struggle, as we manage treatment and medical appointments, trying to find something that works. It can feel like three steps forward and two steps back at times. Remember that every day, we are learning as we go, and finding out how best to support our kids.
Mothers of children with eczema are truly amazing. We can have many plates spinning, juggling multiple roles and responsibilities, all while providing unwavering love and support to our children. We are our children's voice, and their best advocates. We fight for them, to ensure they receive the best care and support.
If you are a mother of a child with eczema, know that you are not alone. You are doing your best and that is enough. Keep up the good work, and know that your dedication and love are making a difference in your child's life. Happy Mother's Day to you, you are amazing!
